Traveled with Michal Gerda (37) and Marie Gerda (19). The two women are listed as workwomen. Nearest relative is listed as Mr. Gerda Marve at BRECIOVCA, and they were going to Cleveland to join parent [sic] Mr. John Gerda, 3480 E. 104th St. Cleveland, OH. Michal had been in Cleveland in 1908 and 1914 before. None of the three intended to return to Slovakia and all intended to become citizens. None were polygamists, anarchists, previously deported, or planning to overthrow the US government (!). Michael was listed as 5'7" with grey hair and brown eyes, Verona as 5'3" with brown hair and brown eyes, and Marie as 4"9" with brown hair and blue eyes, all fair complexion. All three were born in Breciovca, TchSlov. Women are listed as single, Michal as married.

Michael was listed as 5'8" with grey hair and gray eyes. Born in Cz.Slov. Kencany. He is listed as a farm laborer and has at home housewife Maria Gerda, Brecejovce, Cz.Slov.

Cleveland City Directories, WRHS: 1884-85 lists Ernst Hellmann at 1403 Harvard with foreman being the occupation. 1886-87 at Warner and Turney, with grocer as occupation. No listing for 1887-88, but reappeared and continued through 1896-97 as Ernst H. Hellmann and the address of the grocery at 2646 Warner Road. Cataract Mills Flour Mill was at 2621 Warner Road in 1882.[Research by Jerome J. Gerda.]

Murphy, clerk at the Post Office, resided 441 Pewabic. By 1912 in the Directory, Frank S. was still listed as a carpenter living at 212 Florida, but Robert G. was listed as a mailing clerk at the Post Office and residing at 212 Florida as well.

The Calumet News, January 17, 1938, page 5. "Frank Murphy, Former Laurium Man, Striken. Frank Murphy, 80, former well known Laurium contractor, died this morning in Houghton following a long illness. Mr. Murphy was well known in the district and was a resident here for many years. Surviving are several children in Detroit and Cleveland. The body has been removed to the Thomas funeral chapel in Calumet pending word from absent relatives."

Henry F. is added in 1884-5 as a clerk at R. Mitchell & Sons Hardware at 2591 & 2753 Broadway (the NE corners of Harvard and Broadway and Miles Park and Broadway). By 1896-7, Henry F. is Sec. and Treas. of Mitchell Bros. Co. and the home addresses of Henry F. is 61 Tioga and Henry C. and Herman is 91 Tioga. [Research done by Jerome J. Gerda.] In 1910, Alvin E. Rahe is a clerk residing at 8603 Tioga ave SE, Henry F. Rahe is sec-treas of Mitchell Bors Co. at 8443 Boradway SE residing at 8603 Tioga av SE, and Henry H. Rahe is a watchman residing at 8703 Tioga.
