Using Blackboard,
Collaborate, Kaltura, and Kahoot!
Whether
you are teaching an
in-person class,
a synchronous
remote
class, or an
asynchronous remote class you may want (or need) to Set
up and Customize a Blackboard Course, use a Collaborate
Ultra classroom, Create a Blackboard Exam, or use Proctorio as an
online proctoring service.
The tutorials below provide a mix of text document explanations, videos
created at other places, and Kent State Specific tutorials/videos.
Kent State's "Keep On Teaching" site also has useful information (https://www.kent.edu/keeponteaching).

- Blackboard Collaborate Ultra allows faculty
members to schedule
online classes or office hours to communicate with students live or
allow the students to watch recorded sessions.
- Students can see
others via webcam, hear and
ask questions via voice or instant messaging, and share presentations
and ideas using a common whiteboard or by sharing desktops.
- Sessions can
recorded and can be posted with other course
materials in a Blackboard course or shared outside of Blackboard as a
direct link.
- What to do if the Microphone or
Camera Access is Blocked in your Collaborate Room [how to unblock it].

- Proctorio is a remote
proctoring service that can be used with quizzes and exams in
Blackboard.
- Proctorio can record a
student's webcam, audio, screen, or
other actions during the exam session which can then be reviewed by the
instructor for inappropriate test taking behaviors.
- The results
of Blackboard Exams using Proctorio appear right in the Blackboard
grade book.
Kahoot!
- Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform,
used as
educational. Its quizzes called "Kahoots", are user-generated
multiple-choice quizzes that can be accessed via a web browser or the
Kahoot app. You can use these quizzes during a synchronous
class
(in-person or remote) or for an asynchronous class where students
complete the quiz by a deadline you set.
- Click the link above for a text explanation of
Kahoot! and to see a video walk-through of setting one up.
- I have created a Sample Pop Culture Quiz that
you can take
until September 20, 2020 or until 50 people have tried it.

In-person Teaching with New Classroom Tech
- Virtually
all KSU classrooms have been set up with a "Lumens DC 125" camera and
with Audiotechnica mics.
- The
video shows the classroom equipment and how to use it and how to hook
up your own laptop to the new system.
- You
can then use Collaborate Ultra to stream your in-person class in real
time and/or to record your class for later viewing!

record anything on your computer screen, along with your voice and
webcam.
- This
video shows how
to use Kaltura Capture to record a video lecture, make it visible to
others, and how to post it in Blackboard or via email.
- Kaltura

close caption your videos. Having
uploaded a video, you can have Kaltura caption your video as follows:

Enrich.
