KILENAULE  LANCERS  SET

    This set is from County Tipperary, Ireland.  The set may also be known as the
              MOGLASS, KILKENNY BEG, ST. JOHNSTOWN, DRANGAN, CLOONEEN, FETHARD
              and COOLMOYE.   In the past, the dancers and musicians in and around Tipperary
              just called this the LANCER SET.  The KILENAULE LANCERS SET is similar to parts
              of the TIPPERARY LANCERS , the RATHGORMACK LANCERS and the
              KILMANAGH LANCERS.
    Gents dance forward on the left foot and ladies begin forward on the right foot.
    Bar counts for dance patterns are shown in bold.
    The total bar count for each Figure includes an eight-bar introduction of music.  Gents
              sometimes batter during last two bars of Introductions.
    First Side couple is on the left of the first top couple.
    Swing in ceili hold.

Dance an ordinary polka step (down-2-3).
Top couples: REPEAT "MARKER"  first top gent and second top lady swing in the center in ceili hold;
          dance into the set (two bars); swing one and one-half revolutions;
          end the swing facing homes (four bars) then dance forward to
          respective homes (two bars)8.
All couples: swing corner partner in ceili hold6; batter-step to original partner2;

          advancing; all dance down-2-3 otherwise)8.
All couples: swing original partner at home in ceili hold (ends of lines dance to home
          in two bars and swing in ceili hold for six bars)8.

Dance an ordinary polka step (down-2-3).
All couples: REPEAT  "MARKER" chain (gents dance anticlockwise, ladies clockwise) to near the gents'
          opposite and all couples retain left hands there (first top gent with first
          side lady, etc.)4; form an arch and the lady turns clockwise under the
          arch twice (or once) as couples continue dancing anticlockwise
          to the ladies' home; ladies stop at home and the gents dance solo
          outside the ladies to their own home4;
Top couples: ladies chain :  ladies give right hands at waist-height in the center and dance
          to the opposite gent (who has danced slightly forward); couples take
          left hands and form an arch; the lady dances under the arch and
          around the gent as he continues to face into the set; ladies also
          chain as they pass right-shoulder-to-right to-place at home8;
house each other twice in waltz hold16.
