TIPPERARY  LANCERS  SET

    This set is from County Tipperary, Ireland. The set is similar to the KILENAULE LANCERS,
              the RATHGORMACK LANCERS  and the KILMANAGH LANCERS.
    Gents dance forward on the left foot and ladies begin forward on the right foot.
    Bar counts for dance patterns are shown in bold.
    The total bar count for each Figure includes an eight-bar introduction of music.  All
              dance a lancer batter during the last two bars of the introduction.   A description of
              the lancer batter was unavailable as of this edition.
    First Side couple is on the left of the first top couple.
    Swing in waltz hold.

    FIGURE 1 -- POLKAS (104 BARS)
Dance an ordinary polka step (down-2-3).
Top couples: REPEAT "MARKER"  first top gent and second top lady  swing in the center in waltz hold
          (dance in2;  swing one and one-half revolutions4, end facing home;
          dance to home2)8.
All couples: swing near-corner partner in waltz hold6; batter-step to original partner2;
swing original partner in waltz hold8;
repeat from   REPEAT "MARKER"   with second top gent/first top lady, first side gent/second
          side lady, then second side gent/first side lady leading72.

Dance an ordinary polka step (down-2-3).
First top couple: REPEAT "MARKER" house inside in waltz hold; on bar six, side couples split-off
          for four-facing-four at tops' position and all place arms at backs8.
  At some sites side split-off during the last two bars of the Introduction.
Lines of four: advance and retire twice8.
All couples: swing original partner at home (ends of lines dance to home in two bars
          and swing for six bars)8.

Dance an ordinary polka step (down-2-3).
Top couples: REPEAT  "MARKER" house around each other twice; end at home with the ladies inside the set,
          at the left side their partner16;
All couples: lead around anticlockwise:  ladies dance on the inside of the set and take left
          hands in the center; gents place left arm at the lady's waist6; ladies dance
          behind their partner as partners change places and all batter2;
lead around anticlockwise in open waltz hold (gent's right arm at the lady's waist;
          partners do not take left hands)8.
Side couples: repeat from   REPEAT  "MARKER"  32.
Top couples: repeat from   REPEAT  "MARKER"  32.

All couples: REPEAT  "MARKER" chain to opposite (gents dance anticlockwise, ladies clockwise)6;

house each other anticlockwise in waltz hold8.

At some sites, dancers batter IN then dance 123-4 or 1-2, 123 OUT.
