Plato

Born: 427 B.C.
Died: 347 B.C.

Plato wrote in the form of a dialogue in every work he published.  He was born in the early years of the Peloponesian war. He was a young man when Athens was defeated. He was a pupil of Socrates.

The purely philosophical influences on Plato were, broadly speaking, Pythagoras, Parmenides, Heraclitus, and of course Socrates for whom he had a profound affection and respect.
