Large Funerary Monuments

Go Back to Step 4: Monuments with Chambers      Return to the Project Overview        Move on to Step 5: Burial Locations

For theTruly ambitious there are the large funerary monuments.  These focus more on the monument than the funerary chamber.  Most buried the ashes or remains inside the monument or under it.  These monuments can be constructed of marble (extremely expensive), travertine (a white stone quarried in Latium), or a combination (travertine construction and marble inscription, sculpture, or other decoration).

You should use your imagination for these monuments.  The following are some monuments preserved from antiquity.  Feel free to design your own monument.

Whole families could get together to purchase one of these monuments.
