Dr. Pratim Datta

Dr. Pratim Datta is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems in the Department of Management and Information Systems at Kent State University. He also serves as a co-advisor to the MIS Association and as the co-chair of the Computer Information Systems Marketing Committee at Kent State University. Dr. Datta holds a Ph.D., M.S. in Information Systems and Decision Sciences and an M.B.A. in Information Systems.

Before joining academia, Pratim Datta served in several industry positions in India, Australia, and the United States. Dr. Datta has worked in areas of information retrieval and liaising, inventory modeling, control, and shopfloor operations, served as a technology consultant with firms such as IBM Global Services, Ann Taylor, Gritman Medical Center, and Comdoc, Inc. He has also been involved in the design and deployment of IT solutions in projects associated with SAP and Louisiana State agencies. Dr. Datta was nominated as a keynote speaker for SafeCo Insurance.

Dr. Datta researches a variety of topics associated with IS deployment and performance. His research includes the adoption and deployment of telemedicine infrastructure in Sub-Saharan Africa, the reengineering of knowledge and software for business-technology fit, the redesign of service-driven information architectures, emergent issues in information systems security, technology strategy and marketing, and information economics in E-Commerce. Professor Datta has over twelve peer-reviewed journal publications and more than twelve conference proceedings to his credit. Dr. Datta has over 20 journal articles (16 A-level and higher) and over 18 conference proceedings. His work has been published in prestigious journals and conferences such as the Information Systems Journal, Journal of the Association of Information Systems, European Journal on Information Systems, Communications of the AIS and the ACM, IEEE Transactions, Knowledge Management Research and Practice, the International Conference on Information Systems, and the European Conference on Information Systems, among many others. He currently teaches graduate courses on Management Information Systems and Information Systems Security.

Dr. Datta has received a Best Paper Award from the European Conference in Information Systems and the Distinguished Paper Award from the Decision Sciences Institute Conference. He is the proud recipient of the Farris Family Research Innovation Award, the Research Merit Award and voted Outstanding MBA Professor in 2008-2009

In 2008, Dr. Datta received a provisional patent for A Finger-Geometry and Finger-Pressure Based Standalone Biometric Apparatus and Method for Multi-Modal Non-Intrusive User Authentication. He is currently seeking funding from The Third Frontier in NE Ohio.

Apart from his serving as a faculty and a researcher, Dr. Pratim Datta is passionate about travel, art collection, creative design, and photography. Dr. Datta has designed bookmarks and posters for the department. His photography has been exhibited in New York and Baltimore and was recently published in The Smithsonian. He lives in Hudson, OH.
