Course communication:  Students will use Blackboard Learn to communicate and engaged in assigned discussions. You can access it by going to Flashline (https://flashline.kent.edu) with your user name and password, then going to the Blackboard icon in the upper right corner.  You can contact the help desk at 330-672-HELP if you are experiencing technical difficulties. All assignments will be turned in the following class session.

 

Purpose of the Professional Development I:

The purpose of this course series is to develop and refine skills related to career management and professional development, and to succeed in graduate school.  The workshops will be facilitated by Dr. Michael S. Duchon to provide a selection of topics and events related to your professional and academic development.

      Integrate Online Wall Street Journal


Course materials:  Students will purchase a subscription to the online version of the Wall Street Journal ($99 for one year). The Wall Street Journal will serve as an opportunity to have ongoing in class and online dialogue regarding various professional development topics.

 

Academic Honesty:  Cheating means to misrepresent the source, nature, or other conditions of your academic work so as to get undeserved credit.  In addition, it is considered to be cheating when one cooperated with someone else in any such misrepresentation.  The use of intellectual property of others without given them appropriate credit is a serious academic offense.  It is the

university’s policy that cheating or plagiarism result in receiving a failing grade for the work or course.  Repeat offenses result in dismissal from the university.

Grading:  Your letter grade will be determined based on the quality of the turned in work assignments (reflective of session topics) as well as class participation.  Completing your assigned work by the date indicated is a requirement. Total course points: 130 points.

Final letter grades will be assigned using the plus/minus grading systems as follows:

93-100   A                   80-82 B-                  67-69 D+

90-92     A-                  77-79 C+                 60-66   D

87-89     B+                 73-76    C              below 60 F

83-86     B                   70-72   C-

 

Attendance:  Class meets for 8 sessions plus the VanBenthysen Event on Tuesday, October 6 and an additional etiquette luncheon the week of November10 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Attendance is required at all sessions.
