  Marriage & Family - Dating became more common, arranged   marriages a thing of the past and romantic love reborn.  Most marriages     stayed intact and those that did divorce frequently remarried. The average  number of children in a family was 3.3

                                               Housing & Living Costs - As is true today, the size and costs of     homes varied, but the prices ranged more from a few thousand to ten    thousand dollars. The costs for household items and cars seem unbelievingly    low compared to today, but check out the income earnings of the time for perspective (scroll to the bottom of the linked page).

 Fashion -  The feminine liberation movement impacted women's  fashions of the 1920's.  Flappers were the rage with their shorter hemlines, bobbed short hair, makeup and high heeled shoes.  Corsets were discarded and dresses were boxy. Men's fashions called for tail coats and top hats for  evenings and knickers or baggy pants for casual wear.  Sample the music and   gain a sense of the clothing and dance of the flapper age on this video.

 

  Marriage & Family - The sexual revolution shook up this decade with talk of free love and birth control as the youth of the post-war generation grew up.  'Hooking up' in some instances replaced dating. Yet, Married and family life was still pretty traditional, especially in the suburbs, with fathers as the breadwinners and mom at home or working very part-time.

                                                   Housing & Living Costs - Housing and basic living costs were lower in the early part of this decade as the economy was strong and inflation low.  These circumstances shifted as the decade progressed resulting in higher costs in living.  Check out the average salary, a minimum wage of $1.00 and more.

 Fashion - With teens working and spending more money on clothes their influence new fashion trends was felt in the sixties.  Long hair and bell bottom denim jeans for both men and women, bell bottoms and mini skirts. Clothing was tie-dyed and in bold colors. Dress overall became more casual and reflected the political and social unrest of the time.
