Focus of Lesson: Frisbee (Sidearm throwing)

                                                                                                            

Objectives: NASPE 1, 2, 6   

Psychomotor:

 

  1. While in groups, the students will use the backhand frisbee motion to reach their assigned target (NASPE 1).

 

Cognitive:

2. The students will demonstrate basic understanding of throwing a frisbee  by using words such as extend arm and flick wrists.

 

Affective:

3. The students will demonstrate on-task behavior by following all rules and protocols and listening to the teacher while she is giving instructions. (a)

 

 

Materials and Equipment

  • CD Player and music
  • Yarn balls
  • Frisbees

 

Safety Concerns/Plan:

  • Make sure the students are staying within the boundaries and not too close to the other students when throwing

 

 

Motivational Introduction:

Today we will be learning the overhand throw.  What kinds of games do you see people throwing a ball overhand?

1. Warm-up

The students will jog around the gym to music.

 

Allow the students to walk or jog

 

The students will begin at their spots on the floor.

2. Introduction/Demonstration

I will go over the cues for throwing a Frisbee using the backhand motion

Step with foot closest to target

Flick wrist

Flat frisbee

The students will be lined up facing the targets

2. Activity

The students will practice throwing back and forth with a partner.

They will try to get 5 passes in a row.

The students will be at their mark on the floor facing the target

3. Frisbee Bocce

The students will be put into groups of 4.  They will take turns underhand throwing the Pallino (yarn ball) each round.  They will each take turns throwing the Frisbee toward the Pallino. They are trying to be the closest Frisbee at the Pallino.

Closure - Method used for Checking for Understanding

 

What happens to the object if you let go too early?  What happens if you let go too late?  How did you get the Frisbee close to the Pallino?

Assessment: What will you observe or do to assess student learning, in this lesson?

 

I will observe the students throwing their Frisbee.  I will be looking to see that they are sideways, stepping with the foot closest to their partner and extending their arm.
