Ashley Kuban
Class Time: 40 minutes Grade:
1st
No. Of Students: 23
Previous Lesson: Locomotor/non-locomotor, Intro of pathways
Focus of Lesson: Pathways and Relationships
Objectives: NASPE 1, 2, 5
Psychomotor:
1. In general space, the students will perform various
locomotor movements (walk, hop, skip, gallop, leap, etc.) at low, middle,
and high levels using straight, curved, and zigzag pathways (NASPE 1).
2. In general space, the students will travel through
straight, curved, and zigzag pathways in relation to other objects and
people. (under/over, along/through, on/off) (NASPE 1).
|
Cognitive:
During Q&A, the students will demonstrate
understanding of pathways and relationships by answering guided questions
with correct responses (NASPE 2).
|
Affective:
During activity, the students will respect other
students’ personal space by keeping their eyes and heads up in order to not
bump or touch others when travelling through “the jungle” (NASPE 5).

- Heads and eyes must stay up to watch out for others
Motivational
Introduction:
Good
morning! Does anyone remember what we did last class? Travelled
through the jungle. Yes! We did. Do you remember what kind of
pathways we used? Straight, curved, and zigzag. Yes! Today, we
will be using those same pathways, but yesterday there was a storm.
Some of the trees got knocked down and some of the branches came
loose. We will have to figure out a way to travel through our
pathways to avoid these trees and branches.

Organization
|
1.
Warm-up/Activity
- I
will have the students begin by performing locomotor movements in
general space with the music trying to avoid the obstacles.
|
Least favorite locomotor skill
Faster
|
Favorite locomotor skill
Slower
|
Zigzag trails: shaped like a
Z. Quick jabs and turns.
Curvy river: shaped like a
snake. Smooth turns.
Straight paths: straight line.
|
The students will begin at
their spots on the floor.
When instructed, they will
perform the locomotor movements in general space trying to avoid the
obstacles.
|
2.
Introduction/Demonstration
I
will ask the students questions in regards to how they avoided the
obstacles.
|
Least favorite locomotor
|
Favorite locomotor
|
1. How did you avoid the tree branches?
Moved around them. Did anyone try anything different? Went
under/over them.
2. How did you cross the
river? Leaped over. Crossed through the log.
|
The students will return to
their home spot.
|
3.
Activity 2
- This
time when the music starts, I want you to travel OVER one tree branch,
THROUGH one fallen log, and AROUND one zigzag trail without bumping or
touching others.
|
Least favorite in each pathway
twice
|
Favorite in each pathway twice

|
The students will perform
these movements using various floor markings.
|
4.
Activity 2
* I
will introduce the “coconut” activity.
The
coconuts got scattered all over the jungle from the storm. Students
will travel throughout the jungle to retrieve the coconuts and bring them
back to their hula hoop.
- one
coconut can be taken at a time and returned to the trees (hula hoops)
- students
try to gather as many as they can from the jungle in 2-3 minutes
|
Gather coconuts from other
trees and place them on your own
Least favorite movement
|
3 minutes
Favorite movement
|
If
you and another student both go after the same coconut, what do you think
should happen? Let the other student have it or do rock, paper
scissors.
|
The students will be
travelling through the pathways trying to collect coconuts for their hula
hoop.
|
5.
Activity 5
The
students will fill out an assessment sheet for the different pathways and
relationships.
|
|
|
|
The students will be at their
spots.
|
Closure
- Method used for Checking for Understanding
Everybody
did a great job today moving throughout the pathways and getting through
the obstacles. Does anybody know a place where you would have to move
like you did today—how you moved over, under, around, and on top of
objects? At the playground.
|
Assessment:
What will you observe or do to assess student learning, in this lesson?
I
will be observing the students moving throughout the different
pathways. I will be looking to see how they move around other
students and obstacles when travelling through general space. Are
they bumping or touching others? Are the students waiting for other
students to pass before continuing on their path? Are
