Upon completion of the course the student may expect to have a pragmatic and theoretical understanding of the ideological and functional group structure of terrorists. This course will argue that terrorism is a rogue form of deviancy that, in a word, is "deviant deviance". Terrorism has a long history, but it is changing in the 21st century in the respect it is becoming more and more ubiquitous. A great deal of this rampant spread of terrorism may be credited to the advancement of technology. History, ideology and technology fabricate a complicated, but interesting academic endeavor - especially from the sociological perspective. (see Learning Objectives)

Students will be required to write four papers. Standards for their presentation will be discussed. ( Four absences - 1/3 reduction in grade. Miss half of the classes -fail.) Failure to submit assigned papers will result in final grade being reduced by 1/3 for each paper.  Generally, exam questions are announced two weeks ahead of the paper submission deadline. The student has the opportunity to turn in paper early, have it evaluated and rewrite to improve their grade. No late papers accepted. Passwords and addresses will not be accepted after second week of classes.
