"Motif" is a dominant idea in a work
of literature; it directly or indirectly supports the main theme
and is frequently expressed in a character (or type of character),
a recurrent image, or a recurrent language pattern.
For this assignment, in essay form, identify a
motif in Song of Solomon by tracing a recurrent image
or language pattern, or by identifying a recurrent pattern of
character or characterization and assert the "idea" behind
these repetitions in the novel. In completing this assignment,
you will be identifying both the "idea" and several
instances in which that idea is expressed (and is perhaps modified)
in the course of the novel.
Other Requirements: 500-750 words; MLA format;
include Works Cited page (even if, as it may for this assignment,
you are citing only the primary text).
