| Saturday: In the morning, after breakfast, we will visit the National Museum, located in a part of the ruins of the huge Baths of Diocletian. This site is one of the nicest in Rome. It has an excellent exhibit on the early history of Rome and Latium. It also boasts one of the best inscription collections in the world. |

| Time permitting, we will also visit the Palazzo Massimo’s collection of statues and coins. |

| Next, we will cool off with a tour of the subterranean remains of the giant pleasure palace which the emperor Nero built after the Great Fire of AD 64, the Domus Aurea. |

| In the afternoon, we will take a walking tour of the Campus Martius, a charming part of town nestled in the bend of the Tiber in western Rome. Sites will include the Pantheon, Piazza Navona (and a stop for a cup of gelato), the Trevi Fountain, the Column of Marcus Aurelius, the Mausoleum of Augustus and the Ara Pacis. |
