Monday: Our second full-day trip will be to the amazing archaeological site of Pompeii, near Naples and at the base of Mt. Vesuvius, the active volcano that looms 4,000 feet above the surrounding region.  Buried in the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79, Pompeii is the best preserved Roman site in the Mediterranean.  We will visit the ancient forum, the baths, the amphitheater, and several of the most famous houses.  You will then be free to tour the site on your own.  Be sure to stop by the two theaters and the Villa of the Mysteries.  In the evening, we will return to Rome and the Villa Clara.
