| Wednesday: Following breakfast, our bus will take us a short distance from Rome to the town of Tivoli. There, we will tour the magnificent country villa owned and designed by the 2nd century AD emperor Hadrian. The villa reflects its owner’s taste for the Greek world, a region in which he had traveled often. Most charming is the Canopus, an oblong pool designed to remind the visitor of scenes from the Nile River in Egypt. |

| In the afternoon, we will visit the Villa d’Este, a sixteenth century Italian villa with one of the largest and most remarkable examples of a Renaissance garden in Italy. The garden is filled with fountains and ornamental basins and will provide a unique and charming end for the day. |
