Dr. Hanbin Mao is a distinguished scientist and educator whose multidisciplinary research and mentorship have earned him both national and international recognition. He is a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute, and the School of Biomedical Sciences at Kent State University. Dr. Mao's academic journey began with a BS in Medicinal Chemistry from West China University of Medical Sciences, followed by a MA in Chemistry from Boston University. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Texas A&M University in 2003 and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley, in the lab of renowned biophysicist Carlos Bustamante.

Since joining Kent State University in 2005, Dr. Mao has made significant advances in single-molecule research and the structural understanding of G-quadruplex nucleic acids. He is widely recognized for his innovative work in mechanoanalytical chemistry. In addition to his scientific contributions, Dr. Mao plays a pivotal role in training the next generation of scientists. His interdisciplinary approach and commitment to scientific excellence continue to drive impactful research and innovation.
