Today the class (in groups of 3 to 4 students) will take on the role of a Geologist. Through this role the students will investigate and be able to:

               

 1. Explain how rocks are formed

2.  Identify the three main types of rocks ( describe Igneous, metamorphic and Sedimentary rocks)

Title: James Hutton - Description: A picture of James Hutton who is known as the "Father of Geology".and

3. Analyze how the formation of these rocks affect Ohio.

 

What they will need:

 

Pencil

Notebook

Poster (online using power point template)

Internet access       

Coloring utensils

Scissor                             Already provided for you!

Tape

paper

 

By the end of the week they should have a presentation (“Science Fair” style) that answers the above three statements. This means they should have a poster with information (CLICK HERE to go to resources page for power point layout) and a hands on invention (CLICK HERE for examples).

 

This project is designed for 6th grade. It aligns with the ODE 6th grade standard (ESS: Rocks Minerals and Soil; Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary rocks form in different ways)
