The Psychopathology and Emotion Regulation Laboratory (PERL) at Kent State University focuses primarily on the study of anxiety and mood disorders at the interface of cognitive behavioral and emotion regulation approaches. Our research centers on two disorders in particular: generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and major depressive disorder (MDD). However, much of our work examines factors such as explanatory flexibility, explanatory style, worry, and depressive rumination that are associated with GAD and MDD as well as other emotional disorders. Another focus of our lab is the development of treatments to promote resiliency and to prevent psychological and health concerns–mindfulness meditation; acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT); third-wave behavioral technologies.
