Relja Vulanovic on Mathematical Literacy

Being able to express yourself precisely is a skill which is needed in all aspects of life. Math classes are perfect for practicing and improving this important skill. Mathematical notation is precise and in mathematics we say what we mean, and we mean what we say. Since reading and writing are the two main components of literacy, we need to know how to read and write mathematics correctly. This at the same time helps to better understand mathematics itself.
