This website is based on numerous work of liquid crystal researchers and scientists, who made the LC display from a research interest into a de facto application in our everyday life. I would like to express our gratitude to the faculty team at Liquid Crystal Institute of Kent State University, Prof. Allender, Bos, Chien, Gartland, Jakli, Kelly Lavrentovich, Li, Palffy-Muhoray, Shiyanovskii, West and Yang, who taught me the wonderful world of liquid crystals.

My sincere thank is to my advisor Prof. O. D. Lavrentovich, who is always there guiding and inspiring me in my research. I want to greatly thank Dr. I. I. Smalyukh for his constructive suggestions and help. Great thanks go to my friends/colleagues at Liquid Crystal Institute, Bohdan, Chen, Li, Wang, Yin, Zhang and others, for their useful discussions. A special thank is for the student seminar organized by West Group, where I learned much.

Acknowledgements also go to 2005-2006 Samsung Scholarship, and 2006 SPIE Educational Scholarship in Optics and Engineering.
