BUSINESS AND ORGANIZATION VISITS

Central to the International Business Experience are visits to a variety of businesses and organizations.  While transportation to these venues is provided, in most cases students will be on their own for lunches.

CULTURAL TRIPS

There are a variety of opportunities for tours and cultural trips.   Typically, planned visits include:  Chillon Castle (Montreaux, Switzerland [go]), United Nations tour (in Geneva [go]), a trip to Le Louvre [go] (Paris), and to the palace at Versailles [go].  Transportation and admission to these are included in the program cost. On most cultural trips, students will be expected to purchase their own lunch and dinner.

In addition to planned trips, time is provided for individual trips.  The rail pass provided as a part of the program allows for a reasonable range of activities.  Usually, students have free time over the weekend from Friday of the first week (in Geneva) until Sunday of the second week (in France).  More adventurous students may be interested in planning trips farther from Geneva (e.g., to Italy or Germany) or early travel to Paris (e.g., to shop or visit Euro-Disney [go]). For these trips, students will need to pay for overnight lodging as a separate cost. Nearer to Geneva, there are very pleasant day trips to Bern [go], Lausanne [go], Fribourg [go], Lucerne [go], Annecy (France [go]), Chamonix [go], Vallais [go], or Zermatt [go]. For those on a budget, overnight lodging will be available at the KSU Geneva Hotel.

Students who plan to stay an extra week or longer should find information about the sites they might visit, travel, lodging, etc., IN ADVANCE of the trip.  Good sources for such information are Fodor's or Frommer's travel guides (available at most bookstores).  Other good sources include the "Let's Go" series [go], written for a college student audience (and pocketbook) and "The Lonely Planet" [go].

Of course, information is also available from the web.  Try http://www.excite.com/travel/ as one starting point.  Also, http://www.railpass.com/new/ is a useful source of maps, travel costs and times, and other travel information.
