TRAIN TRAVEL

Train travel in Europe is probably the most convenient and economical way to get from one city or country to another. If planning to travel extensively during and after the program, a student may find it advantageous to purchase an additional rail pass.  A very good source of information about rail pass information can be found at http://www.railpass.com/new/

As a part of the program fee, students are provided with a train pass which covers, at a minimu, the travel required while with the class.

We will purchase train passes for the students before the trip and these will be subsequently activated in Europe. Some students may want to travel to a country beyond what is included in the pass or some may plan to stay beyond the May return date.  We can arrange to purchase an extended pass for these students BEFORE the passes for the  trip are purchased.  In these cases, students may be able to only pay an additional cost for an extended pass.   Of course, students can always buy regular train trip tickets in Europe, but the fares may be much higher. England, Wales, and Scotland do not participate in Eurorail but have their own pass known as Britrail.  Also, anyone can purchase a Eurail pass (from http://www.eurail.com ) and have it shipped to Europe
or anywhere else they prefer. For more information you can refer to:  http://www.eurail.com/eurail-passes/ordering-info/shipping-calculator .

For comparison purposes, see the following site for information about Europasses (http://www.raileurope.com/us/rail/passes/europass_index.htm).

You can find quite detailed information about train schedules in Europe from http://plannerint.b-rail.be/bin/query.exe/en?L=profi& and  http://www.raileurope.com/us/index.htm
